Inspired by Fallout’s infamous Tunnel Snakes gang, this patch is more than a design—it’s a tribute to rebellion. Known for their motto "Tunnel Snakes Rule," Butch and his gang have been the embodiment of toughness and loyalty. Whether you’re reliving the adventures of Vault 101 or making your mark in the world, this patch lets you carry that untamed spirit wherever you go. Wear it with pride, but as Butch would say, "you gotta be hard" to live up to it!
Challenge
The main challenge of this embroidered patch was achieving accurate reproduction of a highly detailed and complex design.
The product contained multiple color areas with intricate graphic elements. If the patch was produced using a standard embroidery approach without further analysis, many details could lose their definition, and the final result would not fully match the original design intent.
Before production, the artwork needed to be carefully analyzed and divided into different sections. This included identifying which areas required the highest level of detail and visual emphasis; determining the appropriate stitch density for each section; and selecting the most suitable filling techniques based on the characteristics of each graphic element.
The key challenge was finding the right balance between design accuracy, embroidery techniques, and manufacturing feasibility to achieve the best possible visual result within the limitations of the production process.
What I did
To improve the final outcome, I focused on both understanding the embroidery process and improving communication with the factory.
First, I studied the fundamentals of embroidery production and worked closely with experienced embroidery technicians on-site to understand how different stitch types, stitch densities, and filling methods affect the final appearance. I then applied this knowledge to optimize the production approach.
Second, I carefully divided the artwork into different sections digitally and created detailed production guidelines for the factory. These materials clearly explained the processing requirements, visual priorities, and expected effects for each area of the design.
This approach helped the factory better understand the client’s expectations, reduced potential misunderstandings during production, and improved the overall quality and accuracy of the final embroidered patch.
