Background
This is a limited-edition collectible wallet inspired by DOOM Eternal and developed by Bethesda, with only 300 pieces produced. The design brings iconic elements from the game—including the Crucible and Mark of the Slayer—into an everyday accessory. Debossing, appliqué patches, and red contrast stitching were used to preserve the visual identity of the game while giving the wallet a practical, collectible feel.
Challenge
The biggest challenge was capturing the right vintage, distressed look while staying faithful to the visual style of DOOM Eternal. The material itself was not difficult to define—we knew we wanted a leather-based finish—but finding the right surface texture was.
I reviewed and compared more than 200 different leather textures to find one with the right distressed and cracked appearance.
Once the material was selected, another challenge came from the printing process. We needed to use digital UV printing to reproduce the detailed artwork, but the rough, uneven surface of the material made it difficult to achieve consistent and sharp print quality. Every fine line and graphic detail needed to remain clearly visible despite the irregular texture.
What I did
I spent considerable time sourcing, comparing, and matching more than 200 material textures, eventually narrowing them down to the one that best matched the distressed look we were aiming for.
To solve the printing issue, I worked with the factory to test a surface-treatment process before printing. We applied a thin conditioning layer to the material and then tested the digital UV printing again. This significantly improved the printing surface, allowing the fine artwork details to remain sharp and clearly visible.
The treatment also helped reduce the risk of the surface becoming excessively brittle and cracking over time.
Outcome
The wallet received strong positive feedback from DOOM Eternal fans and sold out quickly, giving the client confidence in developing more game-inspired wallets using a similar approach.
Following this project, the client went on to develop additional IP-based wallet concepts, including Cyberpunk 2077 and HITMAN / Agent 47. This project demonstrated that detailed game artwork, distinctive material textures, and everyday functionality could be successfully combined into a collectible product.
